Congregational Care

Stephen Ministry

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” Psalms 147:3

Are you going through a difficult time? A Stephen Minister can help. Stephen Ministers are members of our congregation who listen, care, and spiritual support people going through a crisis or a difficult time.

Stephen Ministers address the needs of people who are lonely, depressed, separated or divorced, homebound, hospitalized, grieving the loss of a loved one, dying, experiencing the loss of a job or financial setbacks, new to the church, inactive members, struggling with their faith in God.

A Stephen Minister is:

  • A friend who comes in when the rest of the world goes out.
  • A dedicated, trained member of the church, commissioned by the First Houston family to administer confidential, in-depth caring. Someone who will visit with you weekly, listen, offer resources and referrals, pray with and for you, and offer Christian love and support.
  • A caring, supportive, Christian friend who has a desire to be with you in a time of need, grief, or crisis.

Homebound Ministry

There comes a time in each of our lives that we need a listening ear and a calming, caring person centered in Christ to journey with us. First Houston Methodist  is united in our mission to be God’s instrument of bringing healing and wholeness in the lives of those in our community. These ministries are offered to support you and your loved ones.

Prayer Ministry

The Bible tells us to, “…confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective” (James 5:16). The gift of intercessory prayer is a gift from God. It is important that you know that we will pray for and journey with you in prayer.

Ways to Serve:

  • Prayer Teams: These teams pray for members of the congregation, families, friends, as well as other needs and concerns on a weekly basis.
  • Prayer Room: The Bintliff Chapel is open for prayer during regular church hours.
  • Prayer Request Correspondence: An individual that will write notes of encouragement as an additional response to prayer requests.
