One of the most rewarding things you can do is volunteer at your church. In your membership vows, you pledged to support the church with your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. The Volunteer Ministry at First Methodist Houston provides an avenue for you to serve in love and help others while receiving blessings and growing in your relationship with God.

First Impressions
First Impressions is our Sunday morning Welcome team. it is the heartbeat of hospitality at First Houston UMC. It’s the first smile. The first handshake. The first “We’re glad you’re here.” It’s the difference between someone feeling like a visitor… and feeling like they belong.
When you join First Impressions, you are stepping into a ministry of presence, energy, and intentional care. You are helping create an atmosphere where people can breathe, feel seen, and encounter God without distraction or confusion.
Parking Team
You are the first face people see when they arrive. This team sets up signage, helps direct traffic, assists people across the street, supports with the golf cart, and helps guests navigate stairs and entry points. You bring calm, clarity, and kindness to what could otherwise feel overwhelming.
Greeters
You stand at the doors, both outside and inside, offering warmth and guidance. Greeters help guests find restrooms, childcare, Sunday School classrooms, and the Sanctuary. You’ll be equipped with the key Sunday morning details so you can confidently answer questions and help people feel at ease.
Welcome Desk
Located on the 1st and 4th floors, this team helps people get connected. You’ll assist with Sunday check-ins, support our regular attenders, and ensure everything runs smoothly for families and guests. This is where clarity meets connection.
